Removing some of the stress of moving house

Two of the top situations for stressing us out are divorce and moving house, personally I find the latter much worse, but that’s another story. Yes, moving is a massive upheaval, especially if you have been in one place a long time and accumulated loads of junk. First thing you should do is make sure that you aren’t taking the junk with you. Now a lot of you are probably thinking that that is just common sense, but a staggering amount of people just chuck things in black bags with the intention of sorting it out later. Then they come across these bags years alter when they are moving again!

Be methodical, if you can chuck and pack at the same time. For example, everyone has a kitchen cupboard or two that is harbouring dozens of containers of cleaning stuff with barely a squirt left in them. Get a box labelled kitchen and what you don’t throw away, pack away. Be ruthless, if it’s been lurking there for years and you have bought umpteen replacements since, the likelihood of you using that one again is zilch.

Attack the bathroom in the same way. That ¼ inch of mouthwash that has changed colour it’s been here so long should have been thrown out years ago. The same goes for old and dusty bottles shampoos and shower gels, get rid. Obviously leave out what you will need until you move, don’t get carried away and pack the toothpaste, deodorant etc. You may be pleased with your efficiency, but your family will be very unimpressed when they are hunting through boxes for a toothbrush.

Being organised and methodical will make your house move a lot less stressful.
