The Shetland Renewable Energy Forum is committed to ensuring that Shetland benefits from the local production of renewable energy through:
1. Supporting the development of embedded generation schemes – either as community or commercial developments
2. Supporting the development of renewable energy storage systems.
3. Advocating the principle that all commercial renewable energy developments in Shetland provide opportunities for local residents and/or communities to become stakeholders and receive some tangible return from that stakeholding.
4. Ensuring that a mechanism exists to extract benefit for the Shetland community as a whole, from the installation of an inter-connector cable to the UK mainland grid, and from the subsequent opportunities to export renewable energy.

The Shetland Renewable Energy Forum will hold occasional seminars and events, with invited guests chosen by members. In principle the Forum can embark on a wide range of activities in furtherance of its aims and under its constitution. However, all activities of the SREF must be undertaken with the agreement of a majority of members. (Only Full SREF Members have voting rights within the constitution).
The Shetland Renewable Energy Forum will establish a Technical Advisory Committee to inform and be informed by, those businesses involved in the electrical network and infrastructure, as well as planning authorities, statutory agencies and development agencies. This Advisory Committee will contain both Full and Associate Members of the SREF, and its proceedings will be reported to the wider SREF membership. The Shetland Renewable Energy Forum will establish a Community Advisory Group specifically to encourage, support and advise community groups to develop a stake in developing renewable energy in Shetland through implementing their own projects. |
