Character Assassination at work

We’ve all heard of assassinations, such as a literal assassination of a political figure, for example. But there is another kind of assassination that can kill anyone-and you don’t even have to own a gun. No, this type of assassination can done simply with the tongue. It is called character assassination. Character assassination is by its very definition, the assassination or killing of someone’s reputation or character.

Character assassination is very common in the workplace today. It is another form of bullying in the workplace. A person may have gained a good reputation as an honest, reliable employee. But some jealous, unscrupulous individuals may seek ways to destroy the credibility and good reputation that person has worker so hard to build.

So they may spread a rumour about the individual that spreads throughout the company. People who formerly respected them may begin to shun or avoid them. It may even get them in trouble with their superiors. Finally, the facts come to light and it is discovered that the charges made about the individual are groundless and a base lie. But the damage has been done anyway.

This is but just but a typical example of what character assassination and how it works. Some persons go through with it on their jobs every single day; others have been putting up with for years, to their own detriment.

Today, there are organisations or facilities within one’s own company that can help toward that end. Human resources departments can often help the employee deal with such a problem and help them take the necessary steps to remedy or solve the problem for good.

No one has to put up with verbal and mental abuse, harassment, threats of being fired or the like. You can stand up to workplace bullying now!
